4 Types of Self-Care We All Need

You’ve heard a lot about self-care, especially since we’ve all been stuck in the house hiding out from COVID.

Self-care is an essential part of maintaining a healthy mental state. When you neglect this aspect of your routine, you’ll see that stress, anxiety, worry, anger, and other negative emotions tend to snowball.

Sometimes, you might not even know you’re holding onto different emotions and tensions from a rough day or week. This is why taking a moment to indulge in some of your favorite self-care activities is essential.

If you’re feeling like you’re fresh out of ideas, we’re here to help with four types of self-care we all need occasionally

Emotional Self-Care

It’s no secret that we’re all insanely intertwined with our emotions. In fact, many people have to work on not basing essential decisions on the emotions they’re feeling.

Emotional self-care means taking time to assess your feelings and emotions, so those feelings don’t build up and cause prolonged stress and anxiety.

Here are a few ways you can practice emotional self-care.

  • Journaling
  • Being aware of your language
  • Meditation
  • Healthy boundaries
  • Prioritizing yourself
  • A long, hot bath

Personal Self-Care

Sometimes you just have to do what makes you happy! This is, by far, our favorite way to practice self-care.

Personal self-care can be making a pit stop for your favorite iced coffee, sitting down and planning out your goals and aspirations, or binge-watching a season of your favorite Netflix show (not totally productive, but therapeutic in some ways).

Here are some other ways to practice personal self-care

  • Daily to-do lists
  • Listening to your favorite songs
  • Reading
  • Spend time with your family and friends
  • Get creative
  • Trying new things
  • Mani/Pedi
  • Spa day

Physical Self-Care

We’ve been through many challenges this year, being on lockdown and all, and physical exercise has definitely suffered since gyms are closed. We all need to maintain physical self-care because it releases stagnant energy and toxins in the body.

Physical self-care also means eating right and taking care of your body! In our opinion, it’s all about balance—don’t deprive yourself, but keep a healthy baseline of fruits, veggies, and grains.

Here are some other physical self-care ideas:

  • Running
  • Living room floor exercise with Youtube
  • Trying new, healthier foods
  • Stretching
  • Resting
  • Going for a nature walk

Spiritual Self-Care

Last but definitely not least, spiritual self-care. If you’re skipping this step, it’s time to move some things around and make sure your energy is on point.

Without proper spiritual self-care and cleansing, you can feel drained, tired, and even become super negative in your thoughts and actions.

Here are some of our favorite spiritual self-care methods:

  • Meditating with healing crystals
  • Keeping healing crystals in our left pocket
  • Spiritual bath with a botanical soak and Florida water
  • Burning sage
  • Creating a vision board
  • Writing out manifestations
  • Visualizing success
  • Positive self-talk/affirmations

The possibilities are endless when it comes to self-care. You have to take stock of how you’re feeling and understand yourself enough to know what you need.

Once you know what you need, you can come right back to our site and grab something for each of these categories!

Why not start with a lavender sage stick? It clears negative energy and keeps you feeling positive and focused!
